Dr. Abbas is a consultant physician in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and is attached to Muhimbili University Hospital where he assists in the running of the diabetes clinic, currently the largest in sub-Saharan Africa. He has also his own medical center - Abbas Medical Centre. Dr. Abbas received his medical degree from Sind Medical College at the University of Karachi, Pakistan, and completed postgraduate training in internal medicine in Pakistan, Tanzania, and the United Kingdom. He obtained the Diploma of Tropical Medicine from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and obtained his Masters of Medicine higher degree in 1995. In 2002 International Course in Applied Epidemiology Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, USA and The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) International Fellowship was awarded by CDC, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Dr. Abbas is a founding member of the International Diabetic Foot Study Group, Member of International Working Group on International Consensus and Practical Guidelines on the Management and Prevention of the Diabetic Foot, Representative of the task force in implementation on consensus on diabetic foot in Africa. Chairman of the Diabetic Foot Task Force for the International Diabetes Federation Africa Region, and Vice president of the Eastern Region of the Pan-African Diabetes Study Group. He is member of several others national and international committees.

Dr. Abbas is the editorial board member of the Diabetic Medicine Journal of Diabetes UK, Medical Science Monitor (MSM), USA, Journal of Physicians of Tanzania and several others. Apart from several other activities he is weekly medical columnist (question and answers) for two leading newspapers from 1997 to the present. He has been a popular resource person giving seminars for teenagers and adults at the mosque, and school in DSM for family life education.

Endovascular and vascular surgeon. President elect Pan African Diabetic Foot study group

Dr. Tudhope is a registered vascular surgeon in Pretoria South Africa. She currently runs two multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinics in South Africa, as well as a foot clinic in Mauritius. She focuses specifically on diabetic foot disease and the endo-venous laser treatment of varicose veins. A large part of her practice involves minimally invasive endovascular procedures. She does aortic, carotid and peripheral interventional procedures in a large percentage of her patients.

In addition, she has a research interest in patient compliance reinforcement. Dr Lynne Tudhope has been serving the community since 1999.

After qualifying as a general surgeon in 1999, Dr. Tudhope did the two-year vascular fellowship at Pretoria Academic hospital. During this time she also completed the European Endovascular Diploma.

She also initiated the establishment of the first Unit for Peripheral Vascular surgery affiliated with the University of Pretoria with Prof. J. van Marle. She is a regular invited speaker at international conferences and she is the Africa member for the Editorial advisory board of Vascular Specialist the official newspaper of the society for vascular surgery North America. She is also on the Editorial Board for the official journal Wound Healing Southern Africa of the Wound Healing Association of South Africa (WHASA).

She is the founding member and past president of the Diabetic Foot Working Group (DFWG) and currently is the president-elect of the newly formed Pan African Diabetic Foot Study Group.

Wound management specialist. Past President Wound Healing Association of Southern Africa

Liezl Naude is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Wound Management and the founder of Eloquent Learning Health (www.eloquent.co.za), a Training company focussing on evidence based practical training in the Wound Management Environment. Eloquent Learning Health has been involved in various training events including, workshops, courses, seminars, symposiums and conferences. She is also a Wound Management Specialist and Founder of the Advanced Lower Limb and Wound Management Centre in Pretoria, South Africa (www.woundmanagement.co.za).

Liezl has been on the forefront of Wound Management in South Africa since the inauguration of the Wound Healing Association of Southern Africa (WHASA) in 2005 where she was part of the conference organising committee. Since 2005 she played a key role within WHASA in establishing the organization and the official journal Wound Healing Southern Africa (WHSA).

She completed her Masters Degree in Community Health Nursing in 2002 at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She also completed a Certificate in Wound Care at the University of the Free State, South Africa in 2004 and a Certificate in Wound Care at the University of Hertfordshire, UK in 2005. Liezl is also in her final year of the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC) at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. She is the past-president of the Wound Healing Association of Southern Africa (WHASA) and has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2005.

Liezl was also part of the South African delegation to present a bid in 2008 at the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) in Toronto. She is a member of the Advisory panel for the World Alliance of Wound and Lymphoedema Care (WAWLC) since 2009. She was also awarded Honorary Life Membership by WHASA in 2011 at the Wounds International Conference for her contribution towards Wound Care in South Africa.

Currently she serves as International Liaison on the WHASA EXCO committee. Liezl has presented several topics at national and international conferences and serve on the Editorial board of the journal Wound Healing Southern Africa and also served on the Editorial board of the journal Professional Nursing Today from 2005 to 2011.

Dr Louise has a multi disciplinary diabetes unit since 1999 as well as an insulin pump centre since 2003.

Her special interest is pregnancy in diabetes. She believes that passion is the centre most important quality to maintaining a good diabetes unit.

Dr. Lynette Moretlo Molefi is a South African medical doctor, a dynamic and versatile entrepreneur and business executive, with a reputation for exemplary leadership. She has been one of the few pioneers of telemedicine in South Africa and Africa with representation at various levels of government and nongovernmental organizations.

Currently she holds executive positions at Telemedicine Africa PTY and Sunpa Africa PTY.She also serves as a board member of HCI, a JSE listed company; The International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth; Etv, South Africa's first free-to-air commercial television station; Business System's Group Africa, and business and software company; Syntell ,a leading blue chip company providing technology based services for Road Safety, Traffic Management and Revenue Collection and Unigas.

Dr Molefi's leadership abilities can be evidenced in the number of leadership positions she has undertaken both in South Africa and across the globe.

Dr Molefi's success has been built on a solid work ethic, a belief in the power of technology, and an unwavering insistence that business must do good to do well.

Dr. Mart-Mari Visser is an orthopedic surgeon with special interest in Foot surgery and Pediatric Orthopedic surgery. She has experience in children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy as well as children with congenital and aquired deformities which includes clubfeet. She also leads an outreach program to a rural school in Limpopo Province catering for 176 children with special needs. She is also actively involved at the Academic Orthopedic Department at the University of Pretoria.
